Dr. Theresa Marko, PT, DPT, MS is the founder and owner of Marko Physical Therapy PLLC, a private practice in New York City, specializing in orthopedics and adolescents. Dr. Marko is an adjunct professor at Touro University and serves as an official Spokesperson for the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) Media Corps. She has helped thousands of people to overcome injuries, optimize their movement, and return to work and sports pain-free and better than ever.

Marko is a board-certified Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist as well as a Certified Early Intervention Specialist. She received a Master’s degree in Physical Therapy from Simmons University and a Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Des Moines University. She is currently enrolled in Creighton University's Ed.D. program in Interdisciplinary Leadership. Dr. Marko also has a certificate in Healthcare Leadership from LAMP Leadership Institute, part of APTA’s Academy of Leadership & Innovation.  Dr. Marko has the unique perspective of knowing how to help all people across the age spectrum. Marko is also a Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) Golf Level 1 certified as well as Select Functional Movement Assessment Level 1 certified. 

When not caring for patients, Dr. Marko can be found in legislative offices in Washington, D.C., or Albany, New York. She is passionate about making a change in health care and has made advocacy a cornerstone of her practice. For over seven years, and hundreds of hours, she has lobbied on behalf of her patients and her profession on topics such as repealing the Medicare cap, reducing student loan debt burden, and lowering copays. She formed public policy priorities during her time as a member of the American Physical Therapy Association’s (APTA) Public Policy & Advocacy Committee. 


In 2022 she was awarded the National Government Affairs Award from APTA and in 2020 she was awarded the Doreen Frank Legislative Award by APTA New York for her outstanding advocacy work.  She has spoken at several academic institutions about patient and physical therapy advocacy as well as on the national level for APTA’s student advocacy events. Marko’s expertise has been featured in many prominent online news organizations and in 2022 she was awarded the Tracy Sawyer Public Relations Award from APTA New York for fostering public awareness of the profession of physical therapy through the utilization of media.

Dr. Marko’s expertise is featured in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, U.S. News & World Report, HuffPost, PopSugar Fitness, Self, Cosmopolitan, and Business Insider. She sat on the editorial board of SpineUniverse as the first and only physical therapist on the board for three years.

Currently she lives in Rockaway Beach, NY, with her husband of 16 years and her French Bulldog, Rondo.
